Client background
A nine-attorney litigation boutique in Buckhead running plaintiff-side matters across Fulton, DeKalb, and Cobb. Thirty-six endpoints — attorneys’ laptops, two paralegals per partner, a small admin team, a conference room wired for video depositions, and the case-management tenant that lives at the center of the firm’s clock. The partners had been working with a long-time break-fix shop that named "we will be there Tuesday" as a response SLO. On a court-day deadline morning, that answer cost the firm an afternoon of partner time and a missed filing window they did not want to repeat.
Challenge
A partner-by-name relationship, not a ticket number. A written response commitment, not a best-effort handshake. Endpoint encryption on every device, including the partners’ personal laptops that crossed the firm’s threshold every day. Privilege-aware incident runbooks that understood the difference between a spam complaint and a privileged-message leak. And cyber-insurance-underwriter-friendly written documentation, in a binder the managing partner could hand to outside counsel without explaining what it was missing.
Solution
ATL 511 CPU staffed the firm with two named engineers and a written response commitment — phone first, remote-hands second, on-site third, with on-call staff parked inside the perimeter. BitLocker was rolled out across every endpoint including the partners’ personal laptops, conditional access was enabled on the Microsoft 365 tenant, and the case-management tenant was brought into the same identity baseline as the firm’s Exchange and OneDrive. The incident runbooks were rewritten as privilege-aware documents — a partner-facing guide for "we got a strange email that mentions a client name" and a responder-facing guide for the same — and the binder was passed to outside counsel on the next quarterly review.
Results
The first live incident after the engagement — a partner-laptop hard-drive failure the morning of a deposition — was answered and fully recovered by lunchtime. The named-engineer arrangement cut diagnosis-to-repair time on subsequent tickets by roughly half, because the responder already knew the firm’s environment and did not need to ask which case-management platform it lived behind. The managing partner reported the next cyber-insurance renewal as the easiest one in five years, and the firm’s standing bar-compliance review now answers the technology-competence expectation without a side conversation.
